Geoff Ryman - Author Guest of Honor
Gaylaxicon has had a number of major award winners as Author Guest of Honor, but Geoff Ryman is the first to appear on the
Publishing Triangle's
list of
100 best gay books of the 20th Century.
Born in 1951 in Canada, Geoff lives, works, and writes in the UK. His works have won the World Fantasy
Award, the Arthur C Clarke Award, the Campbell Memorial Award, the James Tiptree Jr Award, the Gaylactic
Spectrum Award, and more. His novel Was used The Wizard of Oz mythos to link the stories
of three very different people and times; while his novel Air explored the impact of a major
worldwide technological leap on a remote Asian village. His latest novel, The King's Last Song,
examines historical and modern Cambodia - a far cry from the advanced technology of the future England in
The Child Garden. Ryman's works often deal with the power of art on society, and though undoubtedly
filled with the dark complexity of real emotional turmoil, his work seems to encompass a definate sense of
optimism and belief in the redemptive power of love. There's no such think as a simple Geoff Ryman work.
He also looks good in a tiara.
Novels: The Warrior Who Carried Life, The Unconquered Country, The Child Garden, Was, 253, Lust, Air, and The King's Last Song.
